Pakistan – 11 Dead as Rain and Flash Floods Cause Houses to Collapse in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PDMA) reported damages and fatalities after severe weather including heavy rainfall in province from 24 to 25 March 2023. Affected districts included Mardan, Peshawar, South Waziristan and Khyber. One house was destroyed, 9 were damaged, 15 people were injured and 6 killed. Most of incidents were a result of poor housing structures collapsing.
Further severe weather occurred from 29 March. One person was injured when a house collapsed due to heavy rain in South Waziristan. Three people were injured in similar circumstances after heavy rain in Hangu district on 30 March. On 01 April, 2 people were injured when a house collapsed during heavy rainfall in Orakzai.
Further heavy rain from 01 to 02 April caused flash flooding in South Waziristan, where 2 people died, and in Tank districts where 135 homes were damaged. Heavy rain also caused houses to collapse in Peshawar, where 2 people died and 3 were injured. On 03 April, a house collapsed under heavy rainfall in Bajaur, killing one resident.
