General Elections in Punjab will be held on May 14, Supreme Court
Supreme Court of Pakistan annulled decision of Election Commission of Pakistan to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 8. A three-member bench of Supreme Court has given a unanimous decision.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial pronounced decision. According to order of Supreme Court, elections will be held on May 14.
A three-member bench of Supreme Court has declared decision of ECP null and void. In decision, it has been said that Election Commission has no authority except to conduct elections in 90 days. Therefore, Election Commission’s decision of March 22 is null and void.

Supreme Court has made some amendments regarding elections in Punjab in its decision that elections which were to be held on April 30 will now be held on May 14.
Schedule issued by Election Commission, i.e. process of nomination papers and scrutiny was stopped, Supreme Court has ordered to start schedule from there, however some changes have been made.
It has been said in decision that due to decision of the Election Commission, delay of 13 days in elections should be adjusted in schedule of May 14. Decision reduced campaign schedule.
Supreme Court has written in its decision that Constitution and law do not allow Election Commission to extend the date.
According to the decision of Supreme Court, nomination papers can now be submitted till April 10. The decision said that the final selection of candidates will be released on April 19.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court has ordered federal government to release Rs 20 billion to Election Commission while giving a safe decision on petition of PTI.
Supreme Court of Pakistan said that if government does not release 20 Billion rupees to Election Commission, then court will take an appropriate decision regarding the government. Supreme Court has ordered government to release funds by April 10.
