Punjab and KPK Election Postponement Case, Judgement Reserved
Hearing on petitions against delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Supreme Court of Pakistan, Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandyal has said that we respect Parliament and Government. government did not inform about obstacles in way of elections.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Atta Bandial, other judges included Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard petitions against delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
After completing the hearing on petitions against delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Supreme Court has reserved its decision, which will be pronounced on 4th Apr 2023.
Decision was reserved after bench refused to hear PDM’s lawyers. Bench said that since PDM has expressed no confidence in bench, their lawyers will not be heard either.
At the end of hearing, a three-member bench of Supreme Court reserved verdict after hearing Defense Secretary and Finance Secretary and examining reports submitted by them.
Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial said that we will also review reports that have been submitted by federal government. Most important report was that of Secretary of Defense. Court ordered defense secretary to submit report to court today.
Chief Justice said that we have to look at all these situations that if a sad incident happens in elections, who will take responsibility for it.
He said that entire burden falls on federal government, it is responsibility of federal government to manage funds and also manage security. If any mishap happens in elections, whole debris will come to Supreme Court.
