Squash Legends Jahangir, Jansher received Highest Civilian Award
Squash legends Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan were conferred with Pakistan's highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
On occasion of Pakistan Day [23rd March], several sports personalities received civilian awards for their services in respective sports.
President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi presented Nishan-e-Imtiaz to both Jahangir and Jansher on Thursday [today].
After receiving award, Jahangir took to twitter to share his feelings. "Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of hard work you already did. I want to share this lesson with youth, never give up! I dedicate this award to resilient people of Pakistan, my fans & everyone who was part of my journey. Pakistan zindabad!" he wrote.
Jahangir and Jansher led Pakistan's dominance in world of Squad. Jahangir Jahangir won British Open for record consecutively 10 times and World Open six times. In 1981 at age of 17, Jahangir became youngest winner of World Open, beating Australia's Geoff Hunt in final.
Meanwhile, Jansher won World Open a record eight times, and British Open six times. He remained number one in world from January 1988 till January 1998 (118 months). He took retirement in 2001. Previously, Jansher receivedHilal-i-Imtiaz,Sitara-i-Imtiaz andPride of Performance awards for his services in squash.
Jahanhir is currently doing social work alongside former Test cricketer Shahid Afridi. He is president of Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) who worked tirelessly in COVID-19 crisis and floods in Pakistan.
