Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Approval of a special campaign "Ilam Tolo Deh Para" to increase the literacy rate
The caretaker government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Literacy Campaign "Ilam Tolo Deh Para", an important initiative to increase the literacy rate in the province.
According to details, an important meeting of Provincial Task Force for Amalgamation was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Justice Retired Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, in which the relevant provincial ministers and Corps Commander Peshawar, apart from top civil and military officials participated.
While giving a detailed briefing on various aspects of the campaign, the participants of the meeting were told that this campaign has been prepared with the cooperation of Pakistan Army and Provincial Education Department.
Initially, this campaign will be launched in the merged districts of the province.
In the next phase, this campaign will also be launched in the low literacy rate districts of the province.
Under campaign, a five-year comprehensive plan for enrolling out-of-school children in these districts has been prepared, for which short-term and long-term measures have been suggested.
Under the campaign, special attention will be given to children in the age group of 5 to 16 years.
While giving a briefing to participants of the meeting, it was told that currently 55% i.e. 10 lakh children are out of school in merged districts, the number of girls out of school is 74%.
Under plan, apart from providing missing facilities in existing schools, steps will also be taken for the availability of teachers, while steps will also be taken to identify ghost schools and ghost teachers.
The meeting was told that schools will be rationalized in the merged districts and surplus schools will be converted into technical and vocational centers and steps will also be taken to introduce formal education in religious madrasas.
Special incentives will be given to teachers and students to increase the literacy rate.
In task force meeting, besides upgrading the schools based on the need, it was decided to immediately post the domiciled teachers of the merged districts in their respective districts.
In meeting, it was also decided to take action against concerned contractor in case inquiry regarding missing facilities in schools is not carried out according to schools PC One.
Addressing the meeting, the Caretaker Chief Minister said that the Literacy Campaign will be a milestone to increase the literacy rate in the province, especially the adjoining districts.
The role of the Pakistan Army in preparing the campaign is commendable.
He said that the provincial government regards this role of the Pakistan Army with utmost importance.
Redressing the deprivations of the merged districts is one of our top priorities.
