It has been 12 years since the Giari Sector Tragedy.
On April 7, 2012, 129 soldiers were martyred by an avalanche, today the entire nation is paying homage to those great martyrs of Gyari.
The Siachen Glacier at Giari, about 30,775 meters high, is one of the highest protected peaks in the world.
Lt. Col. Tanveer was commanding the Northern Line Infantry Battalion on the Siachen Glacier while Major Zaka was also present when a large avalanche fell on his unit while on duty on April 7, 2012, resulting in 129 soldiers were buried under the avalanche and martyred.
The battalion headquarters had been located at the same location for the past 20 years, the battalion headquarters of NLI Six was completely buried in the tragedy while none of the occupants could be rescued alive.
Due to the high peak and bad weather, it was very difficult to carry out the relief operations, but despite the dangerous weather, the Pakistan Army using all its resources on the 13000 feet high peak, except for the 7 martyrs, the heirs of all the martyrs.
The mission was declared impossible by the foreign rescue teams, but the Corps of Engineers as well as other battalions carried out the rescue operation with great courage and bravery.
The aid activities on the Giari sector continued for one and a half years, in which teams of experts from many countries, including the United States and Germany, also participated.
The Martyrs Memorial at this place, installed on the highest peak of Siachen, as a monument, reminds us of these martyrs, we have not forgotten their sacrifice.
