Pakistan asked the United Nations to investigate the presence of modern weapons in the possession of terrorists.
According to the details, in the 4th Conference of UN Action SALW, Pakistans Permanent Representative Munir Akram highlighted the weapons recovered from terrorist groups like TTP.
Pakistans permanent delegate Munirakaram expressed concern in his address at the review conference and said that terrorists including TTP have modern weapons, where did the terrorist groups get the modern weapons?
Pakistans permanent representative demanded that an investigation be conducted as to how modern weapons reach the terrorists.
He said that it is the responsibility of the UN and all states to stop the illegal arms trade, how do terrorists and criminals get these weapons if they do not make them themselves.
The Pakistani delegate said that terrorists get arms from illegal arms markets, arms are obtained from institutions, which do not want stability in a country or region.
He further said that the illegal proliferation of arms is fueling conflicts, the proliferation of arms is fueling terrorism and endangering peace and security.
The Pakistani Permanent Representative also pointed to the advent of new technologies such as UAVs and drones, saying that there are challenges in countering the proliferation of increasingly lethal small arms.
Munirakram called the Program of Action and International Tracing Instrument a global consensus and reiterated Pakistans strong commitment to POA and ITI.
He said that we have strengthened the legislative framework and enhanced transfer control, it is necessary to create consensus on the scope of the program of action.
